Un rapporto di Amnesty, con i dati aggiornati al 2018, ha documentato 145 esecuzioni di minori autori di reati in 10 paesi: Cina, Repubblica Democratica del Congo, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Arabia Saudita, Sud Sudan, Sudan, Stati Uniti e Yemen. Molti di questi paesi hanno nel frattempo modificato le loro leggi, e l’esecuzione di minori non è più consentita. Dal 2013 ad oggi, sono 5 i paesi che hanno continuato a giustiziare minorenni: Arabia Saudita, Iran, Pakistan, South Sudan e Yemen. L'Iran ha giustiziato più del doppio dei minori autori di reato rispetto agli altri nove paesi messi insieme. Unendo i dati del rapporto di Amnesty ai dati raccolti da NtC negli ultimi 2 anni, l’Iran ha mandato sul patibolo almeno 103 “minorenni” dal 1990. Con i dati aggiunti da NtC, i minori giustiziati dal 1990 nel mondo salgono a 151, 103 dei quali uccisi dall’Iran. L'Iran è firmatario della Convenzione delle Nazioni Unite sui diritti dell'infanzia, che vieta l'uso della pena di morte.
